If you have been following our business for a while, you would know that sustainability is an important business value of ours, in fact our whole business model is built around sustainability.

Sustainability is built into our production process leaving a net positive impact on the environment and looks like this;

1. Trees
   Our trees are grown naturally in shelterbelts across farmlands helping to reduce; salinity, wind erosion and drawing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The unique feature of this species of eucalypt is that it will re-grow (“coppice”) to a harvestable size every two to three years. This provides a sustainable supply of trees on a rotational basis.
2. Harvesting
   We have developed unique harvesters that will remove the foliage but not damage the tree roots. This means the trees will re-grow to a harvestable size within two to three years whilst continuing to provide shelter belts, reduce salinity and improve the environment.
3. Steam distillation
   The oil is extracted through the traditional process of steam. The water used in the process for steaming and for cooling is continually recycled through the production process.
4. Biomass
   The waste leaf or biomass from the distillation process is stockpiled and dried out to be used to fuel the furnace for our boiler. We are also about to install a pilot pyrolysis plant that will convert this biomass into biochar and wood vinegar, both environment enhancing products.
5. Kochii Oil
   Through the distillation process the oil is collected, filtered and put directly into containers before being bottled. There is nothing at all added to the oil. It remains the pure and natural eucalyptus oil extracted directly from the leaves of the oil mallees.

Additionally, we use sustainable packaging where possible.

Moving in to 2021 we are focussed on looking at ways to reduce waste while increasing our sustainable business practises, whilst reflecting on this we thought why not look at some simple changes we can make at home to help support our environment. Here are some our tips for reducing waste and living a more sustainable life, some of these also provide good cost savings as an added bonus;

• Use cloth wherever possible, ditch paper towels and napkins, and look for a reusable cloth option.
• Take time to organise and plan weekly meals to reduce waste, once a plan is in place buying in bulk will help set you up for the week, reduce waste and save money.
• Find a reusable alternative wherever possible, think about water bottles, keep cups, reusable make up wipes, containers, bags etc.
